Statement of Faith & Beliefs

Steadfast in Christ, Rooted in Tradition, Open in Spirit

The Statement of faith at FHLM International is not just a list of doctrines and beliefs, but a commitment to the timeless truths of Christianity. We believe faith is expressed not only in what we confess, but also in how we live. It calls us to walk with unity, compassion, and understanding, building one another up as members of one body. This is our conviction and the foundation of our work.

While we acknowledge that theological diversity and beliefs can spark different perspectives, we remain anchored in the essentials of the Christian faith. Our focus is on building bridges rather than walls, fostering a community where love, service, and discipleship reflect Christ’s teachings.

By holding to unity in what is central and allowing freedom in what is secondary, we aim to create an environment where ministers, students, and communities can grow and thrive together.

Our Statement of Faith & Core Beliefs:

  • We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who created all things and calls all people into a loving relationship with Himself.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
“Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
  • We affirm the Holy Scriptures as inspired by God, faithfully bearing witness to Christ, and read within the living tradition of the Church through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
“All scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17)
“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
  • We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became fully human, lived among us, died on the cross, rose again, and offers salvation and new life to all who believe.
“The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from the Father as only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
“God proves his love for us by Christ’s dying for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8)
  • We believe that salvation is the free gift of God’s grace, revealed in Christ and received in faith. This gift transforms how we live, serve, and love.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God — not the outcome of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)
“If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
  • We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit, who comforts, equips, and empowers believers, bringing forth the fruits of love, joy, and peace in the Church and the world.
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and then you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22–23)
  • We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, called to unity, love, and service, bearing witness to the Gospel in every time and place.
“Now Christ’s body is yourselves, each of you with a part to play in the whole.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)
“There is one body, one Spirit, just as one hope is the goal of your calling by God.” (Ephesians 4:4–6)
  • We affirm Baptism and the Eucharist as visible and powerful signs of God’s grace, drawing us into Christ’s body and nourishing us with his presence.
“Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
“Then he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body to be given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’” (Luke 22:19)
  • We believe that Jesus Christ will return, and that God will make all things new, restoring creation in justice, peace, and love.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now, and there was no longer any sea.” (Revelation 21:1)
“Then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven … and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:30)
  • We believe that faith is both what we confess and how we live: walking humbly with God, loving others, and sharing the hope we have in Christ.
“You have already been told what is right and what the Lord wants of you. Only this: to do justice, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)
“Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:17)
  • We affirm the Nicene Creed as a faithful summary of the Christian faith, uniting us with believers across time and tradition.
“Confessedly great is the mystery of our religion.” (1 Timothy 3:16)
“Contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” (Jude 1:3)

The Nicene Creed

At FHLM International, we look to the Nicene Creed as a faithful summary of the essential beliefs of Christianity. This Creed unites us with Christians across time, cultures, and traditions, reminding us of the shared foundation that underpins all our learning, mentoring, and ministry support.

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

In the words of great Christian leaders and thinkers:

“God’s love is not static or self-centered; it reaches out and draws others in.”

J.C. Sproul

St. Augustine

“A good character, when established, is not easily overthrown, and will shed its influence far beyond the limits of personal existence.”

Charles Spurgeon
